Letter From the BID President 11/19/2009
It is a glorious crisp fall in the Village. Last month, the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce’s annual street fair brought 80,000 pedestrians to our lovely Village where they shopped, dined, played games and enjoyed exciting rides.
An exciting thing that happened to me, personally, this fall is that my daughter, Lisa, became engaged. To my surprise and delight, her spectacular diamond engagement ring was purchased from the Village’s very own J.R. Jewelers. After countless shopping trips all over Los Angeles, from Beverly Hills to downtown, her fiancé, Max, found the best quality and value right here in the Village. And I can assure you that was without any prompting from me.
Other than that, the most pressing thing on my mind is BID renewal. It is imperative that all landlords sign their petitions in favor of it. I understand that we are all feeling the effects of the economic downturn, but we must not be pennywise and pound foolish. If the BID is not renewed, vacancies will drastically increase as improvements and maintenance cease. The city does not have the funds to take care of our village so if we do not each do our share it will quickly fall into disrepair. Please read more details about the situation in this newsletter.
I implore you to support BID renewal. If you have misplaced your ballot, please request a new one and fax it back immediately. Time is of the essence.
The BID has recently added a Facebook page, Village at Sherman Oaks Business Improvement District. If you have a Facebook profile, please become a fan of our page.
Congratulations to Scandalo Boutique for being the focus of a lovely article in My Daily Find, our area’s wonderful, new online news vehicle for keeping up with what is going
on all over Sherman Oaks and the Valley. You can see the article on

Once again, I would like to invite you to participate in the Sherman Oaks’s Beautification Committee. Our fall event on October 10 drew over 125 volunteers and made a visible difference. Email sobc1@yahoo.com with any questions. Please mark May 1, 2010 on your calendars for our next event.
